CMA CGM INLAND SERVICES (CCIS), entity of the CMA CGM Group, a world leader in shipping and logistics, and International Transportation and Trading Joint Stock Company (ITC) have set up a joint venture company, General International Logistics (GIL) to provide barge services.
Launching the Ho Chi Minh City – Cai Mep service, GIL flagged-off its first barge service from the SP-ITC terminal today. This service, which is destined for the Gemalink terminal in Cai Mep, will shuttle cargoes between the SP-ITC terminal in Ho Chi Minh City and deep seaport of Cai Mep with three voyages each week.
The barge service relays Vietnamese cargoes bound for North America and Europe to be shipped from the port of Cai Mep, keeping transshipment of Vietnamese exports within her local ports. Each week, four CMA CGM long haul services make their port calls at this main gateway for southern Vietnam. They include the FAL7 service that heads for Europe; as well as the JAX, SUEZ and PEX3 services that ply the Transpacific route. The CMA CGM Group pursues its development in logistics within the region via its entity dedicated to inland transportation solutions development CMA CGM INLAND SERVICES (CCIS).
Adeline Franger Chouraqui, General Director, CMA CGM Vietnam said, “The CMA CGM Group is pleased to partner ITC in this joint venture and kick-off our first barge service to transfer cargo between the two domestic ports in Southern Vietnam. The move demonstrates our commitment to continually seek for better ways to offer more efficient, flexible and sustainable solutions to our customers between the two key terminals”.
